Tribute to Dr. Haim Gamzou
The International Mahler Orchestra

The International Mahler Orchestra unites some of the world's most promising talents with key players from major European orchestras, presenting an exceptional opportunity for young musicians to benefit from the experience and musicianship of eminent players from various world-class orchestras who strive to pass their tradition and craftsmanship to the new generation.

A unique venture, the orchestra gathers musicians from over 15 countries, several times a year for special projects in various European cities, emphasising the works of Gustav Mahler and aspiring to bring both emerging and established soloists to the public.

The orchestra is honoured to have some exceptional musicians from Europe's most prestigious orchestras who see the importance and delight entailed in sharing their experience with the younger generation and making music together in such a special environment.

We aim at creating a habitat for the traditional masterpieces to come back to life, by uniting experience with enthusiasm, knowledge with intuition and tradition with innovation.

The IMO was founded in 2006 by Yoel Gamzou and has had extraordinary box-office and critical success in its first season. In 2006-7, the orchestra presented various emerging soloists to the public and commissioned a new transcription for a world-premiere. The season culminated in a special summer concert which took place on June 12th 2007 in St. John's, Smith Square, London, in memory of Carlo Maria Giulini, and featured Guy Braunstein, concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker with Bruch's Violin Concerto and was concluded with Brahms' Fourth Symphony, on which occasion the IMO was honoured and delighted to announce that Marina Mahler, granddaughter of Gustav Mahler, has become its Honorary President starting from Summer 2007.

In the upcoming 2007-8 season, the orchestra decided to give the chance to two of its young members to play as soloists - Celia Schann played Mozart's A Major Violin Concerto in Spoleto and London (St. John's, Smith Square) in October, and Henriette Fauth played Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto in Paris (Salle Gaveau) in February.

In this season, the IMO also presented a chamber music concert, featuring key-members who came together in London for a special programme, ranging from a premiere of a contemporary piece to the classics.

In April, the orchestra was delighted to present its new Principal Guest Conductor, Hannes Kraemer, with one of Germany's leading violinists, soloist and reputable professor Ulf Wallin, with a special programme featuring another new commission.

The season will reach its peak with the orchestra's debut in the Berlin Philharmonie and the return of Guy Braunstein in September 2008. Furthermore, the IMO will premiere the Adagio from Mahler's 10th Symphony, in the new version by its conductor and artistic director Yoel Gamzou.

The orchestra is delighted to announce a new collaboration (starting in the 08/09 season) with the legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis, who will be joining the orchestra on various occasions, both as soloist and as artistic advisor.
